Your Chance to Develop New Solutions to Circularity Challenges

High School and College Teams Compete for Cash Prizes

The Go Green!! Hackathon brings together secondary (high school) and collegiate interdisciplinary teams for an immersive two-day collaborative learning experience in Midland, MI.

Teams (comprised of two to five students) will be challenged to create solutions in support of circularity in the healthcare, manufacturing or food and agriculture industries. Prizes will be awarded to the top two high school and collegiate teams.

Solutions are encouraged to use digital technologies such as barcodes, radio frequency identification (RFID) and other real-time location systems in the development of their solutions.

Go Green!! Hackathon Details

Important Dates
July 11 Challenge statements available
Friday, Sept. 6 Team registration deadline, proposed solution abstract due.
Monday, Sept. 23 Teams notified if they are acceped to Hackathon.
Prior to Oct. 19 Virtual training for teams with GS1.
Saturday, Oct. 19 Hackathon runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (in Midland).
Sunday, Oct. 20 Hackathon runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Presentations at 1 p.m. Winners announced at 3 p.m.
 
Challenge Themes

Proposed solutions for any of the following categories are encouraged to use AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Capturing) technologies.

Category 1) HEALTHCARE

Create a smart solution that could improve any of the following:

  • People’s accessibility to online personalized healthcare;
  • Patient adherence to their medications;
  • Traceability of pharmaceuticals from manufacturer to patient;
  • Patient safety by reducing counterfeit drugs entering the supply chain.

Category 2) FOOD & AGRICULTURE

Create a smart solution that could improve any of the following:

  • Sustainability of the supply chain by reducing the carbon footprint;
  • Traceability within the food supply chain to improve consumer safety and reduce the occurrence of food recalls;
  • Data sharing among value chain stakeholders to improve the food logistics;
  • The exchange of real-time information among local farmers and processors.

Category 3) ADVANCED MANUFACTURING (limited to solar panel, electronic vehicles, electronics)

Create a smart solution that could improve any of the following:

  • Traceability of the components across the supply chain;
  • Transparency of the supply chain that ensures materials are NOT from countries with forced-labor regions;
  • Recovery and recycling of added value components;
  • End-user (customer) engagement with the manufacturer.
Proposed Solution Abstract (Due Sept. 6)

Each team must submit a Proposed Solution Abstract by Friday, Sept. 6.  Abstracts are limited to a maximum of 500 words with up to 50 points possible. The top three in each category will be invited to participate in the Go Green!! Hackathon.

Registration

Free. There is no cost to apply or participate in the Hackathon. 

Lodging

Teams are responsible for their travel and lodging. Axia recommends the Fairfield Inn & Suites, 506 Buttles St, Midland, MI 48640, (989) 631-7100.

Meals

Meals will be provided while on site at the Axia Institute.
